Why didn’t Facebook offer a Pakistan flag profile picture on Pakistan school attack?

One of the biggest Social media giant Facebook launched small feature to change dp’s on facebook profile that shows how people care about what happened in France on last Friday.a huge number of people on Facebook have changed their profile picture to show the French flag, in a small mark of solidarity with the victims of the terrorist attacks on Friday specially from Asian countries.

It’s a small gesture that shows people care about what happened, and has proved very popular specially in Asian Countries.

But some people have questioned on every media forum why the same option wasn’t given for victims of other atrocities around the world, such as the 150 innocents killed by Taliban in Peshawar School attack in Pakistan.

Ofcourse it seems a double standard for the world to mourn and light candles for victims when they are Parisian, but shrug and carry on with their day when they hear about people dying in Muslim countries.

Specially the Questions what is in trending on Social Media Entities is “Where are the flag filters for Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Palestine and Pakistan? Why don’t countries light up their cities in support for them?”

Mark Zuckerberg (Founder & CEO of Facebook ) said Paris was the first time the feature had ever been used aside from in natural disasters and in future he would offer safety check more often.

‘There has to be a first time for trying something new, even in complex and sensitive times, and for us that was Paris,’ he said.

Another Question People also asked why Facebook activated a ‘Safety Check’ feature for people to let their loved ones know they were safe in Paris, but not in Beirut.

Mark Zuckerberg Replied:“Many people have rightfully asked why we turned on Safety Check for Paris but not for bombings in Beirut and other places.

Until yesterday, our policy was only to activate Safety Check for natural disasters. We just changed this and now plan to activate Safety Check for more human disasters going forward as well.
