Squadron Leader Saqib Abbasi and co-pilot Flying Officer Marium Mukhtiar were flying a PAF FT-7PG on their routine operational training mission when the tragic incident occurred where the jet went through an in-flight emergency at its final stage of the mission. The statement was issued by Pakistan’s Air Force.

“Both pilots handled the emergency with professionalism and courage and tried to save the aircraft till the last minute, ensuring safety of property and the civilian population on the ground,” According to a statement.

They sustained the injuries after their ejection from the jet plane and were immediately shifted to a nearby military hospital where Marium Mukhtiar could not sustain the injuries from the crash.

Marium gave an interview to BBC in 2014 where she stated the challenges of being a female fighter jet pilot. She also stated that she always wanted to do something different in life and her family has always been supportive irrespective of her mother’s concerns about her profession

She stated that the job she was doing is very different and she was always inclined towards the pomp and show. She mentioned her routine that they go for missions with certain limitations because of her physical anatomy but she also stated her confidence and pride that women can do anything.
